On December 6, 2024, the Digital for Active Education Erasmus+ project reached a significant milestone as students from Agrupamento de Escolas da Maia (AEM) participated in the 1st Regional Meeting of Ciência Viva School Clubs (CCVnE). Held at the Galeria da Biodiversidade – Centro Ciência Viva, this event served as a premier stage to showcase the synergy between the school’s own Ciência Viva Club (CCVnE AEM) and the international educational goals of the Erasmus+ program.
The morning session offered an enriching experience through the expertise of Beatriz Amado (Native Scientists), Júlio Borlido Santos (i3S), and Xana Sá Pinto (University of Aveiro). Their insights into science communication, fundraising, and pedagogical research align perfectly with the Erasmus+ mission of fostering excellence in education and bridging the gap between academic research and European youth. For our students, hearing from these experts provided a real-world context for the digital and scientific skills they develop daily within the project.
In the afternoon, the spotlight turned to the students. In a vibrant "Science Fair" atmosphere, the young scientists from AEM, working in close collaboration with the Ciência Viva Club at AEM, showcased the fascinating projects they have been developing. By presenting their work alongside 47 other clubs, the students practiced essential soft skills—such as communication in a technical context, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving. These competencies are core pillars of the Erasmus+ framework, designed to promote active citizenship and digital integration across Europe.
This initiative, integrated into the STEAM Youth Impulse Program and supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), highlights how the collaboration between our Ciência Viva School Club and the Digital for Active Education project is transforming the learning experience. By combining digital tools with hands-on science, we are not only fulfilling our project goals but also empowering our students to become the innovative leaders of tomorrow’s Europe.
