Apps for Good is an educational technology program that encourages students from 5th to 12th grade and teachers from all subject areas to develop smartphone or tablet applications that address social challenges, highlighting the transformative potential of technology in the world and in communities. Through the Apps for Good project-based methodology, and grounded in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the program provides students with the full experience of a product development cycle, culminating in regional and national competitions.
On September 18, 2024, during the awards ceremony of the 10th edition of Apps for Good held at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon, the team from Maia Secondary School was the great winner of the "Galp - Climate and Energy" award with the RaZi project. The work developed by the students consists of a physical model of a green frog, Rana perezi, using sensors connected to an Arduino microcontroller. This setup allows for the collection of data on the physicochemical parameters of the pond (pH, conductivity, turbidity, temperature, and total dissolved solids). The software application will enable the processing of the measured data from the perspective of abiotic factors of the pond ecosystem.
