The first LTT was held in Maia, Portugal, from June 24 to 28, 2024, and focused on the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) methodology.
Throughout the training, teachers were introduced to foundational educational theories—Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism—and explored how they relate to the implementation of inquiry in the classroom. The course centered around the 5E instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate), developed by Bybee, and its application in the design of meaningful science learning activities. Participants engaged in practical workshops where they created their own activities based on the 5E model, collaborated on the development of classroom resources, and presented their projects for peer review and feedback. A highlight of the training was the introduction of video analysis using the open-source software Tracker, which provided tools for promoting scientific inquiry through digital experimentation. The sessions also included discussions on different types of inquiry (structured, guided, open) and how they can be adapted to various learning contexts. By the end of the training, teachers had produced complete inquiry-based activities ready for classroom implementation, along with teaching guides and reflection materials. All outputs were compiled and shared on the project’s collaborative platforms, contributing to the wider dissemination of results and reinforcing the value of inquiry-led learning in STEAM education.
