From October 28 to November 1, 20 students and 11 teachers from all partner countries visited Daugavpils Iespēju Secondary School. The topic of the meeting was "Educational Games" (each team had to create a game using Mikro:bit). It was the first student mobility.
On the first day, all partners presentated their countries and schools. In the course of the week 5 workshops were held. Before each workshop, the teams presented their games. Afterwards, students worked in groups to achieve the similar result. The students worked, researched and identified ways to achieve the result presented by the leading team.
While collaborating, students acquired and masterd different skills, like: designing the rules and mechanics of the game (which involved critical thinking), learning to design intuitive and engaging interfaces for players, creating engaging esducational games, based on their own creativity in narrative development, character design, and establishing game objectives.
Our guests got to know Daugavpils by taking a walk up Church Hill to the city centre, saw the fortress, took part in a bowling tournament, visited the Faculty of Science of Daugavpils University and the Riga Motor Museum. They had a quest in the Old Town of Riga. And, of course, it was a great opportunity to get acquainted with Latvian families' way of life and traditions, as our foreign guests lived in the families of the school students.
The last workshop was to create and present an e-book on work and leisure activities in Latvia.
Some testimonials by Latvian students:
“I really enjoyed this experience, I learned how to work with microbits, and also got to communicate with different people from different countries! I'm incredibly happy that I took part in the project” (Anastasia)
“It was quite challenging to participate in the project, as it took a lot of time and there was a lot of information, but at the same time it was a unique experience, since you could meet foreigners from different parts of Europe. My girl, who stayed in my family, was easy to talk to and fun to exchange gifts and cultures with.” (Oksana)
“I met a very nice and kind girl from Greece. I really enjoyed spending time with her and discussing various topics” (Krista)
“It was a fascinating experience. I learned a lot about Turkey, and that Turkish people are very similar to us. It was interesting to communicate in English, and there were many topics to talk about!” (Milena)
